Volunteering

Who can volunteer?

At Happy on Hooves, we accept volunteers of all experience levels.  Volunteers must be in excellent physical condition and able to lift 50 pounds.  Our young volunteers must be at least 12 years old.  Eagerness to learn, a positive attitude and a love for horses are a must!

Volunteer service at HoH may be used to satisfy Student Service Learning (SSL) hours required for high school graduation.

What type of activities do volunteers perform?

Maintaining happy, healthy horses requires a lot of work and Happy on Hooves relies on our volunteers on both work days and days off.  On non-working days, volunteers are needed for feeding the horses twice per day, ensuring they have ample hay, cleaning of barn and stalls, daily health inspections of all horses, and washing, grooming and hoof care of the horses.  During working days, primarily weekends, volunteers are expected to feed and tack horses prior to first ride of the day, clean stalls and barn area, greet riders and answer any questions, assist riders with helmets and mounting, and provide basic instructions to riders.  At the end of the day, horses will be untacked and all equipment inspected, cleaned and fixed if necessary.
